Old theory update.
See Senses articles (soft stats and etc) and Difference in Undead Article
This theory is pretty old, but effectively, people try to understand why some people can understand Ainz's facial expressions but others cannot. At first, some people thought it a contrivance. But there is an inconsistency to it - people who know someone can , but those who do not understand someone cannot. That sounds like a tautology. However, the link between undead dragon lords and Wild magic created a new addendum to this topic.
If normally, undead cannot use Wild Magic but Dat Boi could(the undead conversion Wild Magic actually creating a link to undead and their souls), seems to have confirmed something else.
That is the three differences in undead.
There are undead who had no souls but are driven by pure hate. These are the beings that most people think of But then you have beings like Keno, Ainz, Yuri, or Dat Boi. Those who are not driven by hate and people who know them can tell they do not radiate hate. Instead, they retain something of normal soul rules. Jircniv definitely didn't sense hate form Yuri but his own biases prevented him from understanding Ainz. But other parties like Nimble and the knights actually in fact can sense Ainz is normal. It just doesn't register to them that he's normla due to the circumstanes.
Basically, no matter the language people can communicate with each other. It goes so far that even without vocal cords one can 'speak'. But normally, undead with no facial skin or even vocal cords can radiate hate that even normal people can sense. It's much like how someone can sense levels as brought upin Volume 5.
So then, what is this universal feature?
As the title of this article posits, another alternative to draconic senses or even the discovery of Wild Magic was this sense. The ability to empathize (not sympathize) seems to enable the ability to sense hate and what people really mean. Undead Dragon Lords may not normally be able to use Wild Magic because once you become undead typically you lose the ability to empathize or even recognize much in a person's emotions. It's only exceptions like Keno who seem to retain most of their souls and original selves or have remnants like Satoru who are the specific nuance.
So ti's thought, that undead lacking vocal cords but can still talk comes from the same magical force that enables this sense. IE all beings seem capable of this extra sensory feature, to the extent there have been no exceptions to auto translate among races nor a reveal it's a recent thing.
One alternative theory is a World Item's flavor text or a Wish caused auto translate. But the evidence suggests this predates Players.
This link to empathy, communication and Wild Magic seems to hint at a more primordial feature of the world.
The projected flow is:
All beings can sense levels and communicate even without vocal cords Dragons have exceptional senses Dragons have their senses grow to the point they can even sense the exact way communicatoin works. ??? Wild Magic is discovered from exploiting this sense
Now some people think Hate = Negative Energy.
But Ainz is made of Negative Energy and people often don't sense hate from him at all.
THAT is the key behind all this. Undead by their nature do not radiate hate. It may not apply to naturally born undead, but the undead physiology does not radiate hate inherentlly. Rather it seems only beings born of pure negative energy with no alternative origin have this radiation of hate.
That's likely why Dat Boi can use Wild Magic. He's a converted undead too, but een if he's twisted, he retained the ability to use souls to some extent rather a pure undead which can only hate and would theoretically lose this sense.
Well like the undead genesis article suggests, if hate can manifest beings, no matter the nuance of the exact mechanism, is hate the only form of this mysterious energy?
Maybe, like this Soul Resonance theory proposes, the ability to understand and sense emotions or language from most beings that are sapient is the non hate version of this energy. Dragons learned to harness this energy, not in it's hate form but it's undiluted form through their sensory advantage.
But what do you think?
Is there a link between the soul, auto translate, how people can sense emotions from others, and this ability to sense levels or strength?
It certainly feels like this ability to sense people's true emotions and even what they truly mean or their true strength is connected to Ziggy.
But who knows, maybe Maru is just a hack and all of these are coincidence.... that or shitty writing. Ziggy favors theories that try to explain the unexplained or mysteries though. Hopefully this made you think more about how these are all connected. Well at least this can be a head canon reason why killing intent, malice, hate, levels and so forth can be sensed...

"A-Ah, Ainz-sama. I think we’ve arrived." "Have we now. Thank you, Mare." With that, another figure revealed itself. In that moment, the air suddenly turned stagnant. The bodies of every man present was suddenly covered in goosebumps. This was not killing intent, but a feeling that was harder to describe. Ainz Ooal Gown was dressed in the trappings that one would associate with an arcane magic caster. To begin with, he wore a jet-black robe, and on top of that, another black cloak, which was doubly curious. In addition, he bore a staff which was lavishly decorated, but not to the point of being overly ostentatious. Around his neck was a silver necklace set with a gemstone. And on his face was a strange mask. "We bid you and your entourage welcome, your Majesty, Sorcerer-King Ainz Ooal Gown." Nimble lowered his head. However, he did not hear anyone else following suit. ..... Despite knowing it was very rude, he had to turn behind to look. The general and knights behind him were frozen in place. They had been overwhelmed by the Sorcerer-King’s presence and could not move. He could understand that. However, if this went on, it wouldn’t turn out well. In the end, it was the general who delivered the solution to Nimble’s predicament. "Legion!" The roar belonged to Kabein. It was a crisp, bracing command that did not seem to suit a noble like himself, but which perfectly fitted his rank as a general. "A salute! To his Majesty, the Sorcerer King!" "Sir!" The knights chorused their reply, and as one, they presented their arms to Ainz. "I thank you for your welcome, you knights who are the pride of the Empire." It was a thoroughly mundane response, which made it that much more frightening. It felt strangely out of place, like something monstrous was trying its best to act like a human being. Having heard of the face underneath the mask, Nimble experienced that sensation even more acutely than the others. Ainz cast off the black cape on his shoulders. The jet-black fabric flapped like a raven’s wings as it spread open. In that moment, the cold, oppressive air that surrounded him vanished like it had never been. All that was left was an ordinary human being, with the presence of an ordinary human being. It was frightening. That was the emotion Nimble felt most keenly now. He had heard of Ainz’ monstrous nature from his comrades. Even so, the man standing in front of him seemed too ordinary, which only deepened his fear. He felt like a large predator was slowly drawing close to him. The knights, who knew nothing, were probably beginning to sense the oddity of the situation. The air filled with a growing disquiet. Kabein seemed to understand. He did not use his mind, but his heart and soul. Through them, he knew what sort of attitude he should hold toward the person in front of him.
[V9]
"If you do—" Ainz snapped his fingers. How exactly he had done it with skeletal fingers remained a mystery. Gazef’s body shuddered, as though something had been done to him. However, there had been no changes in his mind or body. He felt nothing. "Look around you." Gazef turned his eyes to his surroundings. Everything was— "I see. They’ve stopped."
[V9]
"I have no idea …which is why I’m asking. Since you did not know the reason, why did you let Ainz-sama go alone?" "It’s because Ainz-sama now is a completely different person from how he was several days ago." Demiurge opened his narrowed eyes slightly to show that he was confused by this, as though asking Albedo to continue her explanation. "At that time, Ainz-sama did not seem like a man, but instead …how shall I put it …yes, this might sound disrespectful, but at that time, he looked just like a child who was trying to run away." "I did not feel that at all. Were you mistaken, perhaps?" Demiurge shifted his gaze to the[Crystal Monitor] within the room. Its surface displayed the form of his master walking deeper into the forest. "Really now? I don’t think I would be mistaken about the look on the face of the man I love …" Albedo was looking at the Crystal Monitor as well, with the look of a lovestruck maiden on her face. However, that expression only angered the already frustrated Demiurge. "Then, what! What about this expression?" "Right now, Ainz-sama has a look of great conviction on his face. As a woman — perhaps it is disloyal to think in this way, but when I know that my beloved master intends to see through his conviction to the end, I will not say anything more. Also, Ainz-sama has promised me that he will return to this place once more."
[V3]
"...That failure was due to a miscalculation on my part. In addition, you were dealing with a World Class Item, which meant that you were at a great disadvantage. Shalltear — I love all of you who serve Nazarick loyally, you who were created from nothing. That includes you as well. Do you wish to force me to punish you, who bears no sin, and whom I love?" The master shifted his gaze, as though he felt uncomfortable. Cocytus had no idea where his master was looking, but he seemed to have spoken quietly. His master’s face was skeletal, so there were no lips he could read, but he had probably said someone’s name.
[V4]
"I see. However, you did think of them after the undead were destroyed, no? Very good! As long as you can improve yourself and avoid future mistakes, then there is meaning to this defeat." Cocytus sensed that his master was smiling. ... Cocytus had compound eyes and thus a very broad field of vision, but from his bowed posture, he could not see his master’s face. That was the only solace he had. If his master displayed any anger or displeasure, Cocytus would be trembling so hard that he would not be able to do anything. ... After that simple, direct statement, Cocytus thought that the air was trembling. No, it was actually trembling. The greatest source of that came from in front of him — from Albedo’s murderous intent, followed by the quailing of the other Guardians’ hearts. In contrast, Demiurge and his master seemed as calm as still water. ... Cocytus’s master turned to transfix him with a keen gaze. There was no reading his expression. He looked like he was brimming with anger, but at the same time he appeared quite bemused. ... "That said, your suggestion was quite outstanding, Demiurge. Very impressive." Demiurge smiled. "I would not dare, Ainz-sama. I imagine you must have already known about that, but you were only waiting for Cocytus to bring it up." His master did not answer, only smiled bitterly. However, his master’s attitude said everything. Cocytus felt that his body had gone slack all of a sudden.
[V4]
If the undead were monsters that hated the living, then demons were monsters who wanted to make the living suffer.
[V4]
That was because his keen senses told him of carefully concealed hostility and killing intent. He slowly shifted his gaze. The two Guardians before him did not seem to be paying much attention to Sebas. However, that was from a normal person’s point of view. Sebas was abundantly aware of it. There was no trace of friendliness in the tense atmosphere. The opposite was true, in fact. Their vigilance was not the reaction one would have to an ally.
[V6]
The undead were born. from mass death. They were creatures who hated the living and often desired only to end their lives. However, some intelligent undead could rein in their hatred and build relationships with the living.
[V6]
"—Be strong. The weak-willed will perish." After issuing his warning, Fluder approached the Death Knight. The Death Knight reacted to him; it radiated killing intent and began flexing its limbs. The chains groaned as the Death Knight struggled and pulled its bonds taut, and its body quivered. Fluder extended his hand straight at the Death Knight. However, the Death Knight’s eyes were still filled with hatred for the living. Everyone knew the spell had failed.
[V7]
"No, no, I will not cast a spell like that." Even Ainz had no intention of using such a spell in the middle of an allied country. What kind of terrorist would do that sort of thing? "Of course, I feel the same way as well. Unlike the common image of the undead, Your Majesty is a noble and rational man. I do not believe you will enact a great slaughter because you hate the living."
[V10]
Jircniv glared hatefully at Baziwood’s joking comment. "What nonsense is that? He anticipated our movements to this degree …no, it’s unthinkable. We also need to consider the effects of his unknowable feelings that drive him to hate the living …" Perhaps assuming that he thought like one of the undead was a mistake.
[V10]
That hateful face of his was on full display. It must have been to let everyone know that it was the man himself. "Thuh, the— huu. The same to you, Gown-dono. I did not think I would meet you in a place like this." He had no idea what to say. Just about anything he said could be held against him. However, Jircniv’s lips did not open, as if they had been glued shut. "The feeling is mutual. What a coincidence!" Kuku, the Sorcerer King laughed evilly. He obviously did not feel it was a coincidence. It was not a coincidence at all. Jircniv was certain that all this was part of Ainz Ooal Gown’s scheme.
[V10]
His face was that of a bare skull. Points of red light blazed within his eyesockets. Truly, his appearance fitted one of the undead. However, Neia knew he was something else entirely. The first thing which surprised her was his clothes. He was dressed more richly than a noble would be at the feast to celebrate the inheritance of his title. However, it was the halo of obsidian radiance from behind him that was truly surprising. ...Is he really one of the undead? No way... In Neia’s mind, the undead were creatures like Zombies, Skeletons, Ghasts, and other such creatures. In that case, the Sorcerer King could not possibly be described as one of the undead in Neia’s eyes. Mysteriously enough, his skeletal face did not frighten her. In fact, one could even say he had an air of purity and divinity about him. He was a powerful being, a fearsome being, a being whose power exceeded the capacity of the human mind to grasp — in other words, he was a Supreme Being.
[V12]
"A hero?" Remedios repeated Gustav’s words back to him, unable to comprehend their meaning. "The people think he’s a hero? But he’s undead, no? They hate the living and love death. He abandoned the hostages – no, he killed them off without so much as blinking, didn’t he?"
[V13]
"Yes! His Majesty is undead! It is only normal that you should all feel uneasy! It is a fact that the undead are frightening monsters. I have no intention of saying that all undead are good. Many undead are evil, and there is no doubt that they hate the living!"
[V13]
Therefore, Suzuki Satoru did his best to bluff her. "Hm? There’s no special reason for it." "...Really?" Keno turned to peek at Suzuki Satoru’s face, but Suzuki Satoru was not afraid. His skeletal face was expressionless and he did not have to worry about the beating of his heart. In other words, he could probably lie without being found out. However, the way Keno narrowed her eyes and kept peering at Suzuki Satoru made him feel a little uneasy. Though his body could not sweat, he still wiped the hands holding the reins on his robe anyway. And then, Keno cut in. "Li ~ ar." "Yes, you are, Satoru. You must be in some sort of difficulty. I’ve been travelling with you for five years – even if it doesn’t show on your face, I can tell if you’re lying." "..." There was power in Keno’s words, and he could sense her great confidence. She was certain that Suzuki Satoru had some other objective in mind. He wanted to say she was overthinking things, but she had seen right through Suzuki Satoru. Suzuki Satoru unconsciously felt his face. It was cold, bony and skeletal, without any hint of expressions – how on earth could such a face produce emotions that Keno could read? "...Well done, Keno," Suzuki Satoru sighed, as though giving up. "Fufufu," Keno giggled happily. "It’s been five years. I can roughly guess what you’re thinking. After all, I’ve been by your side all this time." "...It’s been five years, huh. Indeed, after such a long time it’s possible you might be able to tell what mood I’m in just by looking at my face.๔ฐ Character facial expressions could not change in YGGDRASIL. The only way to tell how someone else was feeling was by their voice. Producing a normal voice and minimizing the times he sounded different was not a skill unique to Suzuki Satoru. When he had been depressed, someone else had also seen through how he had forced himself to appear jovial. The words that person had said still lingered in his heart:"We’re friends, after all. That’s probably why I could understand." "–Indeed, that’s right, Keno." "Hm? What’s wrong? Are you feeling lonely? …Very happy? Satoru?" "Ah …that’s right. The way I feel about you being able to understand my feelings is definitely not loneliness, Keno. If I had to put it into words …it would be gratitude."
[kba]
Normally, an undead Dragon Lord cannot use wild magic. Cure Elim found a loophole in this system by sucking up all the souls in an area and using them to power his magic.
[kba]
"Still, we managed to help someone in trouble because you sold that, right, Satoru? I don’t think your judgement was wrong. Keno seemed to have misunderstood something. He could not care less if some human he did not know lived or died. Ever since his body had ended up like this, he had not felt anything like love for his fellow man or whatnot. The only important things to Suzuki Satoru were his friends."
[kba]
Bonus
Remember how Remedios had really good senses and instincts?
Well there are two tangential theories to this resonance theory.
A.) Charisma based classes are better attuned to this magical force (assuming it's not wisdom)
Evidence: unlike other Soft Stats, Charisma actually has a Normal class. Likewise, Ainz is able to bluff so well no one can sense his true self. IE there is a link between Charisma and this ability to sense or prevent other's from sensing one's self. Renner likewise had Actor as a class too.
B.) The ability to harness good and evil energy is linked to this soft stat of wisdom.
IE Remedios sensed Ainz's body's negative energy but didn't realize he's not radiating hate like normal undead because she's dense. So there is a bodily component to hate but the soul's hate is different. This would suggest that the reason only dragons found Wild Magic is due to their exceptional senses that transend what normal beings can sense.
See Senses articles (soft stats and etc) and Difference in Undead Article
This theory is pretty old, but effectively, people try to understand why some people can understand Ainz's facial expressions but others cannot. At first, some people thought it a contrivance. Had his senses been dulled because he was undead? But when he thought about it, he wanted to scoff at how a body made solely of bones without flesh, nerves or even skin, could feel pain in the first place. On that note, how the hell did a body without vocal cords or lungs even manage to speak?[kba]
Japanese. Neither their words of the movements of their mouths matched up with the Japanese language. After that, he did some more experiments. His conclusion was that someone had fed the people of this world some sort of Translation Konnyaku. However, he did not know who had fed that substance to them. The language of this world was translated before the other party heard it. If he could understand what the other person said, then he should be able to communicate with non-human lifeforms, like say, a dog or a cat. The question now was who had done this. In addition, the Village Chief did not ๔ind this strange. It seemed perfectly natural to him. —In other words, this was a basic principle of the world.[V1]
Basically, no matter the language people can communicate with each other. It goes so far that even without vocal cords one can 'speak'. But normally, undead with no facial skin or even vocal cords can radiate hate that even normal people can sense. It's much like how someone can sense levels as brought upin Volume 5.

"This is strange." "Indeed, it’s very strange." They had seen all kinds of Zombies in Keno’s country. Not all of them had been formerly human. It would seem all living things above a certain size had been converted into Zombies. In the wild, they had encountered plodding animal Zombies. That much was the same in the Aina Miscegenation League. However, they were nowhere to be seen as they approached Seruk-3.[kba]
Well like the undead genesis article suggests, if hate can manifest beings, no matter the nuance of the exact mechanism, is hate the only form of this mysterious energy?

But what do you think?
Is there a link between the soul, auto translate, how people can sense emotions from others, and this ability to sense levels or strength?
After watching the maid leave, the man turned back to face Evileye and the others. In the 250-plus years of her life, Evileye had seen powerful beings of all shapes and sizes. However, the man before them had a unique aura about him. No, it was more that the nauseating malice he emanated had no equal in all her experience.[V6]
It certainly feels like this ability to sense people's true emotions and even what they truly mean or their true strength is connected to Ziggy.

"Albedo—" He understood Albedo’s feelings as the Guardian Overseer. That was why he had to think as hard as he could to convince her. Ainz smiled; a troubled, bitter smile. Of course, his expression did not change. "Ainz-sama, that look of yours is too unfair …" Albedo muttered, with somewhat pink cheeks. Ainz patted his face, as if to check.[V10]

However, the Death Knight’s eyes were still filled with hatred for the living. Everyone knew the spell had failed.

Normally, an undead Dragon Lord cannot use wild magic. Cure Elim found a loophole in this system by sucking up all the souls in an area and using them to power his magic.
