Its been ten years since the publication of Overlord 1 The Undead King.
And so everyone would like to give thanks for all the support.
Maruyama Kugane
It's Overlord's tenth anniversary, but to tell you the truth the Web
Novel began in 2010. And so for Maruyama it has been twelve years.
Looking back on it, it's been a long time. Lot of memories and so on
from comments over those ten years...... There were also lots of things
Editor-chan said too...................................
Did you think Maruyama would be upfront with his feelings?!
[ZN: Watashi wa Momonga desu. ]
Without minding the trouble it took to write, and the increasing
difficulty in releasing setting details, as well as my own desires, even
if it's not interesting, I persevered in completing the writing. So
that everyone could indulge in their profoundest thoughts and wildest
delusions of their "alter egos in the world of Overlord".
By the way this is version 1.11. Please permit a few laughs at any
inconsistencies that crop up while playing, and readjust to fit your
inner thoughts. Also when you want to surpass the strong, you have to
leave ideas of balance behind right? Because of those possibilities,
please leaves those thoughts aside. Maruyama also doesn't use this for
writing the books, so don't dwell on this in the future. The difference
between highest grade Job and Advanced job also are nebulous, just like
Level is. That said doubts remain.
This selection method doesn't particularly require dice so they are not
necessary. Give everyone cards labeled S, A, B, C,D,E. The scale of
value starts at the left (with S and descends to E). Of course,
naturally after you make a choice that card can no longer be used. The
options encompass Level Limit, Origins, Ability Score, Special Item,
Talent, and Connections. After . Feel free after reading them to use a
card for the ones you like.
Level Limit(Level Caps):
Your alter ego's Level Limit(Level Cap). Just because you can grow up to this level does not mean you will not die on the way to it. In terms of adventuring, think of this as the level you are aiming for (climbing) to. Please think that at least as far as prospects are concerned yours will be quite strong.
A person that uses the S-Card is Level 41
A person that uses the A-Card is Level 35
A person that uses the B-card is Level 31
A person that uses the C-card is Level 28
A person that uses the D-card is Level 24
A person that uses the E-card is Level 19
*And
this level also determines to what extent you are attractive to the
opposite sex. Those who become as strong as their limit give off this
impression (even when you don't try to stand out, or otherwise
performing ordinary behavior).
S: To the extent that at least in ten countries
families want to adopt you into the family via marriage with brides.
It's also to the extent that members of the opposite sex follow you
around enough to inconvenience you resulting in feelings of wanting to
run away. Perhaps even the same sex. Or rather you will be well liked
even by the same sex.
A:To the extent that
at least several countries have families who want to adopt you into the
family using brides.Depending on the circumstances nations around the
area may have a conference where each nation's royalty or depending on
circumstances nobility may force members of the opposite sex upon you.
After all, your power may destroy the balance of power between nations.
B: Brides of the greater ranked aristocracy and royalty from the nation you live in approach you in talks of becoming a groom.
C: Brides of the greater ranked aristocracy broker talks with you becoming a groom.
D:
It's extremely likely that you are deemed number one by members of the
opposite sex in a large city and their availability for a marriage with
you is extremely favorable. Otherwise medium-ranked nobles may bring
talks of husbands and brides to you
E: In a
small town you are deemed number one by members of the opposite sex,
and their availability for getting married is extremely favorable.
To go further forcibly affix demarcations about individual combat ability(sentou nouryokou),
S can cause mayhem at a national scale (they are also irreplaceable)
A can cause mayhem at a national scale (spares may exist)
B [can cause mayhem] at the level of the area around multiple cities
C [can cause mayhem] at the level of a large city
D [can cause mayhem] at the level of a medium-sized city
E [can cause mayhem ]at the level of a small city
Maa,
I'd be happy if you understood that S-class individuals are people you
absolutely do not want to make into enemies. ......In that case are
S-class people invincible? I wrote this somewhere in the past however
those slightly weaker in close proximity to you can cooperate in killing
you, which isn't quite invincible. Also one shouldn't make an enemy of
too many people. Won't that result in you being cornered? Before that
I'd imagine all sorts of attempts at negotiations would transpire.
Origins:
People who use the S-Card have reincarnated.
And you possess knowledge about YGGDRASIL. And perhaps you were a
resident of that same damned world or perhaps you were a reader of
Overlord? If it's the latter then it's a tragic story indeed. Of all
things the world of Overlord...... How many more better worlds you could
of gone to instead....? Perhaps it's a punishment. To be dropped into
the slaugtherhouse(land of carnage). Maa, there's no graceful way to
lament. Due to the information of your special birth from Level 20
onwards you have the chance acquire the highest-grade Jobs (that is to
say Classes you learn Level 75 and up in YGGDRASIL). As well you can
start with the Basic Job.
Even if your
ability is not high, you very likely possess a trump card that when
used skillfully can turn the odds against someone higher rank. Please
multiply the upper Level Limit you pulled and multiply by 0.6. Then add
to the Level Limit(Level Cap), that's the limit on the rank you rival,
however be aware there are situations where you are bounded by your
ability. So if they are aware of [your trump card] this magnification
plummets to 0.1 .
......Don't
forget as one's Level Limit(Level Cap) is higher the more likely there
are members of the opposite sex surrounding you. They won't betray you?
In this world things like fascination mental manipulation type abilities
exist?
People
who use the A-card are peculiar. Perhaps you belonged to a religious
assassination sect, or perhaps you were born in an exceptional religious
order. What matters is often these types of groups develop a special
skill system that is the product of many sacrifices which you inherit.
After Level 20 you have the chance to acquire Advanced ranked Job
Classes (Classes you needed to be Level 50 to acquire in YGGDRASIL).
Also it's possible to start with the foundational job class.
Even if your ability is not high, you very likely possess a trump card
that when used skillfully can turn the odds against someone higher
rank. Please multiply the upper Level Limit you pulled and multiply by
0.3. Then add to the Level Limit(Level Cap), that's the limit on the
rank you rival, however be aware there are situations where you are
bounded by your ability. So if they are wary [of your trump card] this
magnification plummets to 0.1 .
People
who used the B-card are the elites of society. You are someone born
into the upper stratum of society. You may perhaps be of the aristocracy
or a wealthy merchant. No matter, the likelihood you received tutelage
(in education, training, etc) is very high. After Level 20 you have the
chance to acquire intermediate ranked job classes (Classes you needed
to be Level 25 to acquire in YGGDRASIL). Also it's possible to start
with the foundational job class.
Your
ability is slightly above average, you're outstanding. Please multiply
the upper Level Limit you pulled and multiply by
0.1. Then add to the Level Limit(Level Cap), that's the limit on the
rank you rival, however be aware there are situations where your
ability being restricted are different. So if they are wary this
magnification plummets to 0.0 .
People
who used the C-card are intermediately ranked. You were a child to a
household that could afford tutelage of some kind. As a result you could
start with the foundational class. However if you can acquire an
intermediately ranked job depends on luck.
People
who used the D-card are of the commonfolk. You were born among the
common folk. This is different from being born in poor circumstances.
Pretty much most people are born among the common folk. Since a young
age however you probably helped support the family financially. You
probably acquired two levels in a pragmatic Ordinary Job [class]. This
would most likely be seen as a demerit in regards to your overall Level
limit. This Ordinary Job was not something you freely choose, don't
forget your origin as one of the common folk.
People
who used the E-card are those of a pitiful caste. As a slave or so on,
you most likely did not have the freedom to choose a job.In this case
you were forced to acquire 5 Levels in a useless Ordinary Job [class].I don't mind if you freely choose a Job Class, but keep in mind this is a class that was beaten into you.
As for specific definitions for now, a Foundational Class is something like Fighter or Wizard, and basically all classes you begin with. You can't begin without it.
Ability Score:
This is
the height of your talent for a unmodified ability score(things like
your physical strength or mental capacity and so forth). In the case
someone uses a high-value card, it results in a bonus additional
percentage to the limit level. For example, someone with Level
Limit(Level Cap) of Level 41 with a 25 percent bonus means that should
they train themselves to their limit would have strength corresponding
to a Level 51 person (41 * 1.25). Other than that, the speed by which
they grow and the probability they survive [saving rolls?] also
increases. However caution is to be advised. In Overlord, Level is an
absolute stat. Even should your ability be high, that does not
compensate against the absolutes of Level such as the number of skills
one can use, the damage dampening effects from level differentials, and
the Tier of magic one can use. In the previous case of the Level 51 it
does not mean you need to especially cautious if they use a Skill or
Spell. However the power of their magic can be quite high.
*Shouldn't
one's age being low or high also have an effect? If one's age is only a
single digit or they are advanced in age, perhaps a 20 Percent penalty
is fine. In that regard it's fine to handle it however you prefer.
Personally I would give a penalty.
Someone who uses the S-card is a genius (Tensai).
Surely a Genius has [a bonus of] their Level + 50%. When you are told
one thing, you hear ten things. Level may be an absolute index however
when it comes time to face an opponent in battle, surely their eyes will
open from the results of your talent, astonished at your Ability that
surpasses Level. And in your opponent's confusion a chance is born to
deal a lethal blow.
Someone who uses the
A-card is a prodigy (Shuusai). With a bonus of Level + 25 Percent they
are inferior to a Genius, nevertheless they possess ability of a very
high natural talent. A Prodigy that works hard surely surpasses a Genius
that does not work hard.
Someone who uses
the B-card is a talented person. As they hold talent to some extent
they have a bonus of Level + 10%, they are the big fish in a small pond
(in small groupings their talent is clear). Surely they have good
prospects to be teachers or mentors. As the scale widens to middle and
grander stages with Geniuses and Prodigies, they can't avoid finishing
in second or third place however.
People
who use the C-card are unremarkable. There are no modifiers. There is
nothing to lament however. Surely the (majority of others in the) world
at large lies in this realm.
Someone who
uses the D-card is stupid. Unfortunately the path you walk will be
somewhat rough as you have a Level - 10 percent. You will fall behind
people who exert the same amount of effort as you are inferior at
learning. But it's important to not become depressed. In that case
things will be fine if you work twice as hard.
Someone
who uses the E-card is Maruyama. Level - 20 Percent. You have no
talent! Surely you will blunder on the road you tread. If you can
survive alone that road is questionable. It will come down to luck.
Should you be abandoned.... your life will surely be miserable.
And
thus Ability Score also affects to what extent the absolutely powerful
(True Dragon Lords and Nazarick and so forth) are willing to approach
you for an invitation(solicitation). These super higher-order beings
grant invitations(solicitations) more for talent than Level.
S: Surely you will be solicited once. Even if you are defeated they will spare your life and solicit you once again.
A: You would be solicited once. Should you be defeated however, whether or not they kill you depends on luck.
B:
It is not very likely they will solicit you. In the case you put effort
into selling yourself however, it will then depend on your Limit Level
(Level Cap).
Special Item:
It's an item you acquired thanks to luck at some point in your life.
Perhaps it's an item you acquired from your ancestors. Perhaps you
acquired it at some point in your lifetime. Please think about the finer
details yourself.
People who use the S-card possess a
World-Class Item...... Nee, wait how did you even acquire that? People
are absolutely going to aim to end your life you know? Fundamentally you
do have the overwhelming potential to overturn any combat encounter in a
single use(grand slam) however. Perhaps you could even achieve victory
against an entire nation's military. For Defense and all the other
types you can perfectly resurrect the dead at no penalty, heal every
conceivable wound and illness, cure all poisons, and even have an
absolute defense among other things. Perhaps if you used this item you
could even achieve victory against those like the True Dragon Lords or
Players. Should you use it once however, there would be those who would
aim for your life. They may do this via assassination attempts with
assassins or by sending honey traps and so forth. If you are unlucky,
after using it several times, Ainz, after preparing for certain victory
may begin to move [to target you].
A person that uses the A-card possess an item of
YGGDRASIL origin or otherwise an item crafted by the True Dragon Lords.
It's an item whose name would be known among at least ten nearby
countries. Should you present the item to a prominent figure they would
be willing to contemplate your pleas. For True Dragon Lords that isn't
an exaggeration. That doesn't mean they wont' still aim [to end your]
life. A 5 Level difference may be difficult but it isn't impossible to
overturn [with one of these items].
Someone who uses
the B-card possess a masterpiece(meihin) item made by the hand of a
skilled craftsmen and further enchanted with spellcraft by a high
ranking magic caster. It's of such quality that various countries know
of it's name. It is something that not even Adamantite ranked adventures
may have. Should you sell it, one can live a rich life for several
years/generations.
Someone who uses the C-card .
It is something passed down from parent to child for generations. It
can be purchased for a considerably large sum as it contains great
amounts of magical power but no famous legends about it remain despite
it's amazing power. It may be possible for it to serve as a guarantee of
your social status as well.
A person that uses the
D-card has a run-of-the-mill magic item. It isn't something novice
adventurers can acquire, for example full body armor, within these
limitations however it would be about right to be a well crafted item
from a skilled craftsmen?
A person that uses the
E-card actually possesses a debt, the reverse (of a special item). If
the debt belongs to your parent or to you is immaterial, ultimately you
possess a debt. For that reason, your equipment as a Mercenary or
Adventurer is not in good order. Or otherwise it's incomplete(in good
order). Thus, you receive a penalty of -10 Percent of your Level Limit
(Level Cap).
Talent:
Unusual powers people are born with.
Someone who uses the S-card is "amazing". In
a game it would be like 100 Percent resistance. That is to say if it
was fire you would be invincible against it. Those that make sometimes
invincible against strikes and so on also exist. Talents also scale in
power that also have restricted number of uses and prerequisites. For
example, if a human had the Talent to use one Eighth Tier spell(which is
normally impossible to reach for humanity) one time once a day. In
that case for this class of Talent then it should be possible to also
cast one Tenth Tier spell once a week...... Perhaps it's reasonable to
be able to use a single Sixth Tier magic regularly for the magic of
Overlord? Being able to use this sort of magic is amazing, however
because your basis is ability scores, one demerit is it would be
considerably weaker than if Ainz had cast these spells. Please defer to
the mental image you like however.
People
who use the A-card are "amazing". In games it would be like 50 percent
resistance. In this class of Talent it would be like being able to cast
a single Sixth Tier spell one time once a day? It should be a single
Eighth Tier once a week? in the case you possess special eyes they can
see through the all Systems.
Someone
who uses the B-card has a "useful" Talent. For example having 25
percent more physical strength than regular people or they have special
eyes (they can perceive the Arcane system)
A
person that uses the C-card has a "Not Useless But not particularly
Useful" Talent. For example being able to walk 5 steps on the surface of
water without sinking or being able to predict tomorrow's weather with a
70 percent accuracy. Ones like those. Shouldn't it also be possible to
use 0th Tier magic. Likely it should be probable at the tip of one's
finger one can form a light similar to a candle.
Someone who uses the D-card has a Talent that is "nonexistent".
A
person that uses the E-card has no Talent. I wanted to add some sort of
demerit but nothing in particular came to mind. Please think of some
suitable minus(negative) setting like being one rank lower at things.
Even if you are not worth consdieration and a superior feels irritated
(that doesn't turn away from helping) so long as they give instructions
for work you should be fine?
By the way Brain is B, Nfirea is A-S, and Evileye is EX.
Connections:
This
may not play a part in your strength but it is not something you can
look down upon. , you can purchase excellent equipment, and is filled
with various benefits in everyday life. In the case your competency
isn't high despite your high level......you are someone unskilled at
making a living, or someone who is only used, or who becomes a traveler
at the drop of a hat, or an incomplete person of great talent.
Those who use the S-card possess a connection
to the world's top class influential organizations. ......How? Maa,
anyway, this is a connection to Tsa or Ainz and the like. As a result
should you appeal for a resolution to any conceivable situation it would
be resolved. However you must exercise caution as this power is not
your own, as your companion's thoughts may differ from your own. If you
continue to rely on aid, the favors you owe will accumulate and you may
be asked for repayment. Supposing the Sorcerer Kingdom was to attack
your country, no matter what you could not produce a new outcome,
however, this rank of connection would overturn the organization's
policy and maintain peace for approximately 100 years; "We promise to
not take action until the time of your grandchildren"
A
person who posseses the A-card has a connection to a single person in
the world's top class. Disregarding your companion's organization this
connection rivals that of the one for people who used the S-card. This
is like how Shizu stuck a 1-yen sticker onto Neia. She would be able to
make a request to any member of the Pleiades, and should Demiurge decree
for her death they would say "Please pardon her". However, they cannot
go against decisions of the organization or the top ranking person.
A
person who uses the B-card has a connection to a person with a lot of
influence in several countries. This is a King-ranked connection. When
traveling in that nation, things will go extremely smoothly internally.
This depends case-by-case, but this would be equivalent to a a
connection to a powerful person like Fluder. These are people like
Heroes or Outliers. Speaking bluntly, connections to those types of
people are a check against assassins and antagonism. If one is not
careful they would make an enemy of someone capable of causing mayhem at
the scope of a nation, so they would need to deliberate on significant
gains before facing such potential hostility.
A
person who uses the C-card has a connection to someone with a lot of
influence in a single country. This is a connection to someone of high
rank like a Marquis or Duke. This depends on a case-by-case basis but
this connection might even be useable in neighboring nations, even if
it's not as effective there. Would a connection to Adamantite-ranked
adventurers be in this class?
People
with the D-card possess a rival. Fundamentally they are not helpful
toward you, but should you be at a loss as what to do they would be an
ally. However they probably will not help to the extent where they
have to risk their life.
A
person with the E-card unfortunately has an enemy(nemesis). It is an
individual like an Outlier or else a powerful nation [if it isn't a
single person]. It is extremely likely they have already made plans to
take your life. Your standard of living is one level lower than it
should be due to constantly being on the run from pursuers. Otherwise
you have to bear in mind much of your spare time is spent anticpating
conflicts from the schemes of your enemy(nemesis) .
I don't
mind that if you decide to drop down by one grade they would be willing
to put their life on the line for you once? That's restricted to those
people who use up to the C-card. For example if someone used the C-card,
they would get a D-[ranked] rival setting. In this case your rival
would be willing to put their life on the line to save you once. In
addition if you use an S-card, you get an A [ranked] person, for example
someone like Demiurge, with this setting [of being willing to risk his
life once] he would do something like prostrate himself before Ainz to
reconsider sparing your life, despite how offensive it would be for
Albedo.
That's it. Now please create your OC(alter ego).
Everyone, what feeling did the character from your delusions take? I
have the feeling many people would take a high Level Limit(Level Cap).
Bear in mind someone with a weak Level Limit(Level Cap) but with a World
class item and a high level of connections will probably end up
happier. The Level you can reach with S is [only] Level 41. I'm sorry to
say there are many far powerful enemies. For those with an S in Items
or Talent might have a chance [at happiness]...... But I believe if your
level is low it would be common for you to be killed to steal it....I
don't think other people would want to make a Level 41 person their
enemy, so simply by being strong you can live a long life.
Things
like that are what I want to hear from everyone. And now to think about
the enemy your alter ego would face in the end. Everyone, is your alter
ego a powerful person? Are they an aimless drifter?Do they belong to an
organization? A country? What sort of organization? Please ponder it
freely.
And now everyone we need to decide on the last boss. I don't
particularly mind if you don't select one. Everyone please reflect on
your delusions. I don't mind if you disregard things that would
contradict those settings. This doesn't mean the [last boss] will
challenge you directly. You can think about patterns where they send
subordinates against you from the shadows. They may even consider
offering a solicitation should your prove your worth several times, or
they may seriously try to kill you etc there are all sorts of patterns
and variations. Everyone, I leave the finer details of the settings up
to your delusions. It may be good to think about why they are aiming for
you. I dont mind if you decide for yourself but for those that like to
let fortune decide, let me introduce some [last bosses].
Please
grab two six-sided dice in hand. ......Many people may not have any. In
that case, please open one of those many sites instead [to simulate
rolling dice]. Sum the total of the two dice. How did you do?
2: Ainz AND someone among the Nazarick Floor Guardians AND multiple high level servants.
3:
Someone among the Nazarick Floor Guardians. The dice decide which.
Please roll the dice. (1: Shalltear, 2: Cocytus, 3: Mare, 4: Aura, 5:
Demiurge, 6: Albedo)
4~5: A local,
powerful member of a Humanoid or Demihuman Race (please roll two more
dice once again). Then add 45 to the result. That is the adversary's
level). These are special existences those of extraordinary births or
those descended from Players and the like. They are highly likely to hold
considerable influence to make nations take action.
6~7:
Someone from the Pleiades(or several). Maruyama's assumption is that
the [equivalent of a] last boss for a native would be a member of the
Pleiades.
8~9: A powerful, local member of
a Heteromorph race (please roll two dice. Then add 50. That is the
adversary's level. )These are special existences, those of extraordinary
births or those descended from Players and the like. The reason for
their involvement can be numerous, patterns such as acting of their own
accord or being paid gold etc.
10: A
power of the Platinum Dragon Lord (Collaborators and Subordinates etc,
the Dragon Lord himself does not get involved, however that depends on a
case-by-case basis......)
11: One of the True Dragon Lords. May be people connected to the Platinum Dragon Lord, or they may not be.
12: One of the Six Dragons
[ZN: Literally Six Dragons. Most likely the Six Dragon Lord Anti Player Alliance members.]
Well anyways Maruyama's tenth anniversary message
has this sort of feeling...... Message? Everyone thanks for all sorts
of things!
