[Rambling] Architecture and Head Canon McMuffins from Season 1 Designs

Something I've always been curious about was the designs for the E Rantel underground shrine.

Like yeah it's an obvious dark and spooky area for the Zuranon (sic Zurrernorn) bullshit, but once you think about it removed from isolation, why are there dumb pillars in some mostly under developed cave. It makes you wonder, or at least it makes Ziggy.

Was E-Rantel built over something? When was the city built anyway?

Is it connected to the Katze ruins?

"Now Ziggy anime architecture shouldn't matter right you autistic manlet?"

Umu We can't say for sure that the anime designs even had Maruyama's input. But we also can't say they didn't. The precedence exists with both so-bin and the manga artist receiving details from Maruyama, even if broad.

Something Arche said actually made me curious:

If it's not the tombstones then... was she referring to the pillars or Greek style architecture?

With those sing-song words, the girl descended the staircase. It curvedhalfway, and led to a wide open space beneath the earth.Although the walls and floor were made of mud, they looked like they hadbeen reinforced so they would not collapse so easily. The air was relativelyclean; the airflow to this place was good, which kept the air in here fresh. However, this was not part of the graveyard; it was something far moremalevolent in nature.

Clementine stormed back to Khazit’s hideout — the secret shrine under E-Rantel’s graveyard.

The group turned around as they heard Arche’s voice, and saw her staring atthe ruins.“I can’t tell the age or the background of these ruins at all. It’s as thoughthey just suddenly appeared in this era. It feels out of place. Those carvingslook just like the carvings in the region before the Demon Gods rampagedthrough this area, but those carvings had an eastern flavor to them. And thenthere’s these cross-shaped tombstones... no, I still don’t get it.”

Realistically given how tight the anime production was, they probably just used pillars to give it an older Western feel. That and it doesn't get mentioned in the source text. Neither does it go depicted in the manga, then again the manga had cross tomb stones in E Rantel too when Arche said those were actually atypical for the region.

Still, the manga made it clear that the carvings were the Angelic and Knight statues.Allegedly.

Well hope still exists if Maruyama botched his word choice like he did with the glasses / monocle... but this will probably remain something that will never come up again. I thought it would be funny if there was literally some ruins underneathe Ainz's city with a plot McMuffin or something.

"What do you mean one of the Twenty was right beneathe our feet the whole time!?"

Someone was talking about scrutinizing imagery in Overlord adaptations recently and this was the thought I had that I didn't get a chance to articulate.
